Norwegian Skirt Warmers: Functional Folk Art at its Best!

Skirt warmers (lanterns), were a brilliant way to survive freezing church services, sleigh rides, houses, walks, etc... back in the day.

Basically, you’d light a candle inside this pierced tin cone and stick it under your massive skirt.

The heavy fabric trapped the heat, turning the outfit into a personal radiator. It literally kept people from freezing to death!

Inside a secret Norwegian resistance cabin from WWII 🌲

This is "Cella"—the actual cabin used by the resistance at the Ho-Ho headquarters in Krokskogen. The veterans themselves moved it right here into @ringerikesmuseum.

This is actually Norway’s first Home Front museum, established back in the 60s by the people who lived through it.

Because of that, it feels incredibly raw and authentic.

Apart from the cabin, they have a huge collection of original guns, uniforms, and the everyday necessities they used to survive the forest life.

Not a lot of tourists know about this spot, which makes it even more special. 🙂

If you're interested in the Second World War, this is an exhibition that you really should see!

Finally we got a little snow. Not much, but it's a start. :) We've had an exceptionally warm fall, but winter is here!

And so are all the Christmas markets. You can find them in towns, museums, and farms all across the country. 🎅

They're always fun to attend!

This super charming and historical gazebo was quite the surprise to stumble upon when i visited Eggedal. 🙂

I stayed at @eggedalborgerstue (highly recommended historical hotel) for three nights, and this building, with an authentic stone pizza oven, was a highlight! Pizza was super good.

The building is built using new and old materials. The 100 year old windows have been beautifully restored and add that extra "umf" to the experience.

I'm coming back!
